Fellowship Application

Fellowship by Election Form

REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTION TO THE FELLOWSHIP ELIGIBILITY
CONDITIONS D’ELECTION A LA BOURSE ELIGIBILITE

In order to be eligible for election to the International Fellowship of the College, the individual inter alia:
Afin d’être éligible à l’élection de Membre International du Collège, l’individu doit notamment :
  1. Shall have been a registered medical practitioner for at least 20 years;
    Avoir été médecin de profession pendant au moins 20 ans ;
  2. Shall possess an equivalent registerable postgraduate professional qualification;
  3. Shall have at least 12 years of working experience in their specialty,   exclusive of any period of formal training, and possess evidence of continuing medical education.
    Avoir une expérience professionnelle d’au moins 12 ans dans ladite spécialité, à l’exclusion de toute période de formation formelle, justifier d’une formation médicale continue;
  4. Shall have shown interest and evidence of participation in the same or similar areas of endeavour in their college, such as training, research, advocacy, or community involvement, which aligns with the objectives of our own college.
    Avoir montré de l’intérêt et des preuves de participation dans des domaines d’activité identiques ou similaires au sein de leur collège, tels que la formation, la recherche, la défense des intérêts ou l’implication dans la communauté, qui correspondent aux objectifs de notre propre collège.
  5. Must have satisfied the Council that he has the professional, ethical, and moral standards required of Fellows.
    doit avoir convaincu le Conseil qu’il possède les qualités professionnelles, éthiques et morales requises des boursiers.

 

Procedures:

  1. Application forms may be obtained from the college website (www.wacpcoam.org) or from the college secretariat.
  2. The applicant shall be supported by reports from two referees who shall be Fellows of the College in good financial standing and at least one of whom must belong to the faculty to which the applicant is seeking admission. Referees should be requested to forward their recommendations directly to the National Secretary under confidential cover.
  3. The International Office shall consider each applicant and make appropriate recommendations to the Secretary General.
  4. The Secretary-General should then vet and forward the application to the Council through the Finance and General Purposes Committee for approval.
  5. Ratification of the Council’s approval shall be sought at the Annual General Meeting of the College.
     La ratification de l’approbation du Conseil sera demandée lors de l’Assemblée Générale Annuelle du Collège
  6. Completed application forms should normally reach the Secretary General’s office by June 15th in order that they may be processed and considered by the College.

Fellowship by Progression Form

Council approved criteria for Progression from Membership to Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians:
Le Conseil a approuvé les critères de progression du statut de membre à celui de membre du Collège ouest-africain des médecins :
  1. Duration of Membership of Eight (8) years.
  2. Evidence of CME of Four (4) updates with certification or (2 updates and 2 AGSMs for Paediatrics and Psychiatry).
  3. Attendance at AGSM: 2 AGSMs.
  4. Publications: 3 publications in indexed journals
  5. Support of Fellows: 2 Fellows in good standing.

Procedures: (Procédure)

  1. Application forms may be obtained from the College Website (www.wacpcoam.org), College Secretariat or the National Secretary of the Chapter of the College in the applicant’s Country of residence.
  2. All applications shall be submitted online via the college portal together with a recent passport photograph of the applicant as well as copies of each of the applicant’s certificates or diplomas and his/her National Medical Council or registering authority.
  3. The applicant shall be supported by reports from two referees who shall be Fellows of the College in good financial standing and at least one of whom must belong to the Faculty to which the applicant is seeking admission. Referees should be requested to forward their recommendations directly to the National Secretary under confidential cover.
  4. The Executive Committee of National Chapter shall consider each applicant and  make appropriate recommendations to the respective Faculty Board.
  5. The Faculty Board shall then consider the application together with the recommendations of the National Chapter. The papers of the candidates who are recommended by Faculty Board shall be forwarded to Council through the Finance and General Purposes Committee for approval.
  6.  Ratification of Council’s approval shall be sought at the Annual General Meeting of the College. La ratification de l’approbation du Conseil sera demandée lors de l’Assemblée Générale Annuelle du Collège

International Fellowship Form
